Rocky Road – not only a sweet treat for Just Catering

Rocky Road – not only a sweet treat for Just Catering

What does my life, chocolate, marshmallows, and biscuit pieces all have in common?

They are part of what makes up a rocky road.

But not all rocky roads are sweet. Some are, (particularly if they’re the tasty treats I make) but if I think about where I am today, you could say it has been a bit of a rocky road setting up my business – Just Catering.

Anyone who knows me will tell you that I absolutely love food! It’s the number one thing in my life (after my dear wife of course). Cooking, creating recipes, and working with my clients is what gets me out of bed in the morning. It’s my passion. I get excited about it. And I get even more excited when people eat and enjoy the food I make.

It feels like an honour when people enjoy my cooking. That may sound over the top to some, but it’s true! It fills with pride when I cater for parties, or present clients with my platters and their eyes light up when they see the food. And when people tell me how delicious my food is I swell with pride!

The food by Just Catering is homemade, and I make it all from scratch. I can tell you exactly what’s in every mouthful, from the curries to the quiches. And it’s not all catering firms that can say that – which is what makes my business so special.

I started by buying and running De Maines eatery in Moseley, Birmingham. After two years – and a lot of blood, sweat, and tears – I decided to sell it and move into mobile catering, and set up Just Catering.

It’s been tough. Working for yourself as a business is hard work. It can be a very rocky road at times, so rocky, that you even have a wobble every now and again – it happens to the best of us. Running Just Catering is the biggest challenge I’ve ever taken on.

So why do I do it?

Well, there are a few reasons. One is that I’m good at being in charge, and it’s really important to me to carve out the vision for my business and take it to the next level. This is something only I can do and it’s something I want to achieve.

But I’m not running Just Catering for me only. The main reason I work so hard and put the hours in is for the people I love – my wife and my two fantastic children. They are my life.

But life is also about making big decisions, getting on with it, and overcoming challenges we face is all part of the business journey. I’m working hard, and I know I’m on the road to success. Let’s hope the only rocky thing about it is my tasty chocolate, marshmallow and biscuit tray bakes!
