Canapés in the Summer? Game, Set and Match

Here we are in July and Summer is upon us. It actually is too: we have sun and everything! Here at Just Catering, we’ve been enjoying the great British tradition of Wimbledon. Nothing says summertime like grunting, shouting, smacking a ball over a net and strawberries with champagne.
It is estimated that visitors will consume more than 28,000kg of strawberries accompanied by over 7,000 litres of fresh cream, not to mention the alchohol to go with it all! Wimbledon is the largest catering event carried out at any single annual sporting occasion in Europe. About 1,500 catering staff are employed at numerous restaurants and cafes across the site, including the tea lawn, the Wingfield restaurant and the member’s enclosure.
Perhaps your summer event isn’t quite as large scale as that but the summertime is a great time for organisations to have some fun and treat their employees and clients. 1) Prawn & Avocado Crostini

Bash some avocado, add a drizzle of lemon juice. Toast slices of French baguette and add a dash of olive oil. Spread the bashed up avocado onto the toasted slices. Add a few prawns. Finish with a touch of sea salt and you are good to go.

2) Ham, Feta and Watermelon Skewers

Cut up some watermelon. Skewer with a cocktail stick. Add a cube of feta and a slice of cured ham. Add a sprinkle of pepper and add a touch of mint for a mouth watering and refreshing appetiser.

3) Mozzarella, Sun-Dried Tomato and Basil Bites

Perfect for the vegetarian crowd. Skewer a mozzarella ball, a sun-dried tomato and a basil leave on a cocktail stick. For added taste, serve with a dip.

4) Salmon & Cream Cheese in a Courgette cup

Peel a courgette into curls with a potato peeler and roll around a dollop of cream cheese and some fresh salmon.

5) Strawberry Cheesecake Shots

Obviously, it is Wimbledon! Use shot glasses or small ramekins, add a centimetre of crushed biscuit, then layer with cream cheese and top with strawberry preserve and half a fresh strawberry.
