A Different Kind of BBQ

Ah, the summer! Rain, sand, sun cream and after-sun! And what could be more British than a BBQ cooked under an umbrella and eaten in the living room on your knees?

I certainly love a good BBQ. Although I often get quite fed up of only having salad to accompany it. It’s good to have the traditional staples: burger, sausage, steak. I am also quite a big fan of cooking fish on the BBQ, a bit of smoked salmon goes down very well in my house. But sometimes it is good to mix it up a bit and try some entirely different accompaniments.

So, this year, rather than settling for a green salad and a few cherry tomatoes, I am planning on doing some BBQ themed canapés to keep my guests sated while the meat is sizzling. Here are my top four BBQ friendly canapés that you can find on our menus at Just Catering. Next time you are planning a summer BBQ party, how about giving us a phone and finding out how we can help you make your event one that becomes a great memory.

Mozzarella and Sun-dried Tomato Pesto

Not just cheese and tomato on a stick! This canapé uses the highest grade Buffalo mozzarella with beautifully sweet sun-dried tomato pesto and tops it with a garlic crumb that gives a satisfying contrast of texture. Bright, summery flavours to compliment a summer event.

Parmesan and Asparagus Gruyere Tartlet with a Smoked Paprika Mayonnaise

The smoked paprika mayonnaise conjures up the smells and tastes of the BBQ and fully compliments the flavours of the meat.

Smoked Salmon Blini

Salmon and BBQs go so well together. A great, tasty fish, the texture of the blini compliments the soft salmon beautifully.

Roasted Peppers on Bruschetta

I love thinking of creative ways of making vegetables interesting for my guests. The peppers are beautifully sweet and make a change from bland garden salad accompaniment.

Hopefully Mother Nature will be kind and not rain on your BBQ extravaganza. Good luck and happy eating.
